PHILANTHROPY FOR CLIMATE AT COP29

For its fourth year, Philanthropy For Climate is committed to supporting diverse participation of philanthropies, using our global collective to catalyse transformative climate action.

Our presence at COP29 aims to raise awareness of how collective philanthropic action can accelerate inclusive climate finance, advance frontline voices in decision-making, and promote regenerative solutions that support national commitments and global sustainability goals.

We will convene philanthropic actors attending COP29 to facilitate networking and share insights on motivations, takeaways, opportunities, and challenges, highlighting the successes and impact potential of philanthropy, while building a unified community behind a just and sustainable future. Together, we hope to transform the promise of COP into actionable commitments for our planet by integrating a climate lens into all philanthropic efforts and encouraging multi-stakeholder partnerships.

PHILANTHROPY FOR CLIMATE EVENTS AT COP29

Events

Global Convening of Philanthropies

Global Convening of Philanthropies

Hosted by: WINGS, Fundación Avina, F20, Wellcome Trust, GIFE, AFF, NGIC
-
Amidst the vibrant energy of COP29 in Baku, we are delighted to invite you to join us at a networking reception for the global philanthropic sector. The Global Convening of Philanthropies will bring together philanthropy support organisations, foundations, and organisations that are part of the philanthropic ecosystem, from around the globe, under one space, to network, inspire, and share perspectives and expectations for COP29 outcomes. It is an opportunity to provide a platform to discuss how we can leverage the collective power of philanthropy in the pursuit for just climate action, and how the sector can engage with the entirety of the UNFCCC process to advance global climate goals.
When and Where: November 15th, 18:00-20:00 (AZT / UTC+4) at Extreme Hangouts (Green Zone)

Global South Climate Philanthropies Meeting

-
A continuation from a meeting that was first held last year during COP28, this gathering brings together Global South-led and Global South-serving climate philanthropies to discuss collective action for successful outcomes at COP30 in Brazil.
When and Where: November 15th, 16:00-17:30 (AZT / UTC+4) at Extreme Hangouts (Green Zone)

The Path to Resilience: Transforming Climate Finance for Indigenous and Local Community-Led Action Solutions

Hosted by: Fundación Avina, Voices for Just Climate Action Alliance, WINGS, SouthSouthNorth, International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP)
-
Despite safeguarding 80% of Earth’s biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) receive less than 1% of global climate funding. Without equitable, flexible, and community-centred financing, IPLCs face limitations in harnessing their knowledge and practices to drive scalable adaptation and resilience. This session will address the urgent need to reform financial mechanisms that better serve local priorities, unlocking and amplifying climate responses that offer global benefits.
When and Where: November 16th, 15:00-16:00 (AZT / UTC+4) in the Resilience Hub (Blue Zone)

Philanthropy For Climate Without Borders: Regional Commitments to Collaborative Action

Hosted by: WINGS & Arab Foundations Forum
-
Join us for a practical and participatory discussion how philanthropy can further collaborate across borders, and collectively, for greater impact on climate. During this event we will celebrate the launch of the Arab Philanthropic Commitment on Climate Change and the growing #PhilanthropyForClimate movement!
When and Where: November 15th, 09:00-10:00 (AZT / UTC+4), League of Arab States Pavilion (Blue Zone)
